{"id":124963,"date":"2025-03-13T05:15:38","date_gmt":"2025-03-13T05:15:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=124963"},"modified":"2025-03-13T05:15:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-13T05:15:38","slug":"nebraska-governor-signs-bill-to-regulate-crypto-atms-citing-growing-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=124963","title":{"rendered":"Nebraska governor signs bill to regulate crypto ATMs, citing growing fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Cointelegraph.com NewsThe governor of Nebraska, Jim Pillen, has signed legislation to protect against cryptocurrency fraud as crypto ATM crime skyrockets in the United States.<br \/>\n\u201cCryptocurrency is an important, emerging industry, and we\u2019ve been working hard to build Nebraska into a cryptocurrency leader,\u201d said Governor Pillen on March 12 following the signing of the bill.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u201cAn important part of these efforts is to make sure that we have guardrails to prevent criminals from taking advantage of Nebraskans,\u201d he added.\u00a0\u00a0<br \/>\nThe bipartisan legislation establishes the \u201cControllable Electronic Record Fraud Prevention Act,\u201d which is designed to help combat fraud and protect users of crypto kiosks and ATMs.<br \/>\nSource: Jim PillenAccording to the Federal Trade Commission, victims have lost over $65 million to crypto ATM fraud in the first half of 2024. \u201cFraud losses at BTMs (Bitcoin ATMs) are skyrocketing, increasing nearly tenfold from 2020 to 2023,\u201d the commission reported in September.\u00a0<br \/>\nThe bill, LB 609, was introduced on Jan. 22 by Senator Eliot Bostar. It stipulates that crypto ATM and kiosk operators must be licensed under Nebraska\u2019s Money Transmitters Act and registered and approved by the Department of Banking and Finance.
