{"id":126512,"date":"2025-04-05T03:16:08","date_gmt":"2025-04-05T03:16:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=126512"},"modified":"2025-04-05T03:16:08","modified_gmt":"2025-04-05T03:16:08","slug":"sec-paints-a-distorted-picture-of-usd-stablecoin-market-crenshaw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=126512","title":{"rendered":"SEC paints &#039;a distorted picture&#039; of USD-stablecoin market \u2014 Crenshaw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Cointelegraph.com NewsUS Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Commissioner and vocal crypto critic Caroline Crenshaw has accused the US regulator of downplaying risks and misrepresenting the US stablecoin market in its newly published guidelines.<br \/>\nHowever, many in the crypto industry see the SEC\u2019s decision as a step in the right direction.<br \/>\nIn an April 4 statement, Crenshaw, who is widely known for opposing the spot Bitcoin ETFs,\u00a0said that the SEC&#8217;s statement on stablecoins contained &#8220;legal and factual errors that paint a distorted picture of the USD-stablecoin market that drastically understates its risks.&#8221;<br \/>\nCrenshaw disagrees, crypto industry applauds<br \/>\nUnder the new SEC guidelines, stablecoins that meet certain criteria are now considered &#8220;non-securities&#8221; and are exempt from transaction reporting requirements.<br \/>\nCrenshaw disputed the accuracy of the analysis made by the SEC in arriving at that decision. She pushed back on the SEC for reiterating issuer actions &#8220;that supposedly stabilize price, ensure redeemability, and otherwise reduce risk.&#8221;<br \/>\nSource: David SacksThe SEC said that &#8220;albeit briefly, that some USD-stablecoins are available to retail purchasers only through an intermediary and not directly from the issuer.&#8221;<br \/>\nCrenshaw argued this was misleading.
