{"id":154115,"date":"2026-07-06T15:16:24","date_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:16:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=154115"},"modified":"2026-07-06T15:16:24","modified_gmt":"2026-07-06T15:16:24","slug":"english-fans-drinking-gives-starmer-burnham-transition-a-headache","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=154115","title":{"rendered":"English fans&#8217; drinking gives Starmer-Burnham transition a headache"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Politics<\/p>\n<p>LONDON \u2014 As England continues its World Cup campaign, back across the Atlantic a political row about soccer&#8217;s drinking culture is in full swing.<\/p>\n<p>U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer broke with his imminent successor Andy Burnham over whether soccer fans should be allowed to consume alcohol while watching games.<\/p>\n<p>Starmer is due to hand over power to Burnham in two weeks and has promised a smooth transition and to support his successor without interfering from the sidelines. <\/p>\n<p>But after <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/christopherhope\/status\/2073489898544181486?s=48\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Burnham said over the weekend<\/a> that there was &#8220;something wrong&#8221; with a ban on fans drinking in view of the pitch \u2014 which he pointed out is allowed at rugby league games \u2014 and that he might overturn it, Starmer pushed back. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice chiefs have warned against the relaxing rules of drinking in the stands, and we think that\u2019s sensible to follow,\u201d a spokesperson for Starmer said this morning when asked whether he agrees with Burnham.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFans who go to matches in football league can drink before the game, in the concourse during half time and can stay late after the match or head to the pub, so there\u2019s plenty of chances to get a drink.
