New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu says Washington “is screwed up,” blaming the divisiveness on Republicans and Democrats alike. <\/p>\n
Asked Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union” about Republicans who want to punish fellow GOP lawmakers for voting for the infrastructure bill but decried censuring Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) for his violent video against Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), the Republican governor who just passed on seeking a Senate seat next year lamented the discord in Washington. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think politics in its entirety, on both sides of the aisle, in Washington is screwed up,\u201d Sununu said. \u201cThey have got their priorities all wrong. They focus on the wrong things. They don’t talk about balancing budgets. They don’t talk about fixing health care, immigration reform.\u201d <\/p>\n
Although he supports the House censure, Sununu said stripping Gosar of his committee assignments will do little to improve the quality of life for voters. <\/p>\n
Such divisiveness will only continue to ruin America, the governor said. \u201cWe got to get beyond that, because, culturally, it’s really, really ruining America,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe got to get back to showing that public service can work, and especially at a localized level.\u201d <\/p>\n
Sununu also criticized the GOP and its poor messaging and urged the party to focus on its more successful policies.<\/p>\n
\u201cRepublicans have had huge successes, with cutting taxes, limiting government, creating \u2014 creating opportunities in schools, supporting parents, making sure kids \u2014 those are our wins, and those are America’s wins,\u201d he said. \u201cThat’s what we have to focus on as a party.\u201d <\/p>\n
Sununu explained his decision to run for governor again rather than jump into the Senate race this way: \u201cYou can just get so much more done as a governor.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cAs governor, you can actually play defense and protect the interests of your citizens against the negative stuff coming out of D.C., as well as creating those opportunities,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
