Trevor Noah, the host of \u201cThe Daily Show\u201d on Comedy Central, will perform at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner on April 30 \u2014 becoming the first comedian to headline the annual event since Michelle Wolf\u2019s controversial routine roiled official Washington in 2018.<\/p>\n

We can\u2019t wait for him to help bring our 100-year Washington tradition \u2018Back to Abnormal,\u2019\u201d Portnoy added, referencing the name of Noah\u2019s current comedy tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n Indeed, the announcement of Noah as the dinner\u2019s featured entertainer represents a return to normalcy for the highly anticipated gathering of Washington journalists, politicians and elite society, which in the past drew big-name comedians to preside over the event known as \u201cNerd Prom.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n But after Wolf\u2019s performance in 2018 \u2014 which saw the comedian savage Trump administration officials such as then-press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders \u2014 proved too polarizing<\/a> for some attendees, the WHCA selected presidential biographer Ron Chernow<\/a> to speak at the 2019 dinner. The dinner was then canceled in 2020 and 2021<\/a> due to coronavirus-related concerns.<\/p>\n The White House did not immediately respond when asked whether President Joe Biden would attend this year\u2019s dinner. Former President Donald Trump declined to participate<\/a> in the events throughout his term.<\/p>\n But if the first couple does decide to make an appearance, Noah will have at least one ardent fan in the audience: His autobiography \u2014 \u201cBorn a Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood\u201d \u2014 was one of the two pieces of required reading<\/a> for an introductory English course taught last year by first lady Jill Biden.<\/p>\n
