{"id":56552,"date":"2022-08-15T03:20:11","date_gmt":"2022-08-15T03:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=56552"},"modified":"2022-08-15T03:20:11","modified_gmt":"2022-08-15T03:20:11","slug":"shapiro-to-launch-ads-hitting-mastriano-over-ties-to-far-right-social-media-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/cryptospotters.net\/?p=56552","title":{"rendered":"Shapiro to launch ads hitting Mastriano over ties to far-right social media site"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Source: Politics<\/p>\n<p>Pennsylvania Democratic gubernatorial nominee Josh Shapiro is launching a pair of attack ads targeting his opponent\u2019s ties to the far-right social media network Gab.<\/p>\n<p>The campaign is putting more than $1 million behind the television commercials, which were first shared with POLITICO, and airing them across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Doug Mastriano has come under fire for paying $5,000 for \u201cconsulting\u201d services to Gab, the site where Robert Bowers made antisemitic posts before the deadly mass shooting at Pittsburgh\u2019s Tree of Life synagogue.<\/p>\n<p>Mastriano also participated in an interview with Gab CEO Andrew Torba, where he told him, \u201cThank God for what you\u2019ve done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=jxO-Zx-rC4g&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In one of Shapiro\u2019s ads<\/a>, a narrator describes Gab as a \u201cwhite supremacist website\u201d where \u201cminutes before Jews were killed at this synagogue, the murderer posted his hate-filled plan.\u201d The spot highlights Mastriano\u2019s payment to Gab.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=LbZfUQlNjSw&amp;feature=youtu.be\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Another commercial by Shapiro<\/a> features TV news clips about the controversy, with one anchor saying that \u201celected leaders and members of Pittsburgh\u2019s Jewish community are calling out gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano\u2019s ties to a controversial social media site.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After facing mounting criticism over his links to Gab, including from some in the GOP, Mastriano said in a statement that Torba \u201cdoesn\u2019t speak for me\u201d and that \u201cI reject antisemitism in any form.\u201d He also appears to have deleted his account on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, Torba made antisemitic remarks and said his \u201cpolicy is not to conduct interviews with reporters who aren\u2019t Christian or with outlets who aren\u2019t Christian, and Doug has a very similar media strategy where he does not do interviews with these people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Republican leaders in the state have largely stood by Mastriano amid the controversy and argued that he settled the matter with his statement denouncing antisemitism.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro\u2019s new ads are part of his campaign\u2019s longstanding efforts to paint Mastriano as extreme. His other commercials have said that Mastriano is too conservative on abortion.<\/p>\n<p>Mastriano, who has struggled with fundraising, has not aired any commercials on television during the general election. Shapiro\u2019s lead in the polls has grown as Mastriano has ceded the airwaves to him.<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro\u2019s two TV spots about Gab will begin airing Sunday.
