Democratic strategist David Axelrod still doesn\u2019t think the Biden camp should get too comfortable about the president’s reelection prospects.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think he has a 50-50 shot here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,\u201d Axelrod told<\/a> New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd. \u201cHe thinks he can cheat nature here and it\u2019s really risky. They\u2019ve got a real problem if they\u2019re counting on Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary doing that, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Axelrod recently suggested<\/a> President Joe Biden should consider his reelection bid carefully, prompting ire from the president, who reportedly called the strategist<\/a> a \u201cprick.\u201d<\/p>\n

His unsolicited advice followed a New York Times\/Sienna College poll<\/a> that showed Biden trailing former president Donald Trump among voters in five key battleground states.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t care about them thinking I\u2019m a prick \u2014 that\u2019s fine,\u201d Axelrod told Dowd. \u201cI hope they don\u2019t think the polls are wrong because they\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite disappointing poll results and approval ratings, and questions about the president\u2019s age, Biden and his backers have pushed back against calls to stop at just one term in the White House and say they remain confident in his ability to win reelection.<\/p>\n
