Americans who believe the conspiracy theory that Taylor Swift is part of an elaborate scheme to help Democrats win the November election are also more likely to not believe the 2020 election results, according to a new poll released Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Almost three-quarters of those who believe the Swift conspiracy also believe the 2020 election outcome was fraudulent, according to the Monmouth University Poll<\/a>. <\/p>\n Eighteen percent of Americans surveyed believe in the conspiracy theory and 71 percent of those Americans identify with or lean toward the Republican Party. Eighty-three percent indicated they are likely to support former President Donald Trump in the fall.<\/p>\n Notably, 42 percent of those who believe in the Swift theory also say they had not heard about it before being contacted for the poll.<\/p>\n The poll comes after the spread of conspiratorial thinking<\/a> on the right that Sunday\u2019s Super Bowl was fixed in favor of Swift\u2019s boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, to give Swift a prime platform to deliver an endorsement of President Joe Biden. <\/p>\n Former GOP presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy chimed in on the conspiracy theory<\/a> prior to the Super Bowl, questioning whether there would be \u201ca major presidential endorsement coming from an artificially culturally propped-up couple this fall.\u201d<\/p>\n The Chiefs succeeded in defeating the San Francisco 49ers \u2014 with Swift cheering Kelce on in the stands \u2014 but there was no endorsement. <\/p>\n Last month, Fox News host Jesse Watters speculated that Swift might be \u201ca front for a covert political agenda<\/a>\u201d \u2014 which a Pentagon spokesperson shook off. Fox News’ Jeanine Pirro also urged Swift to not \u201cget involved in politics. We don’t wanna see you there.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThe absurdity of it all boggles the mind,\u201d one senior administration official, granted anonymity because they were not authorized to comment publicly on the matter, told POLITICO earlier this month<\/a>. \u201cIt feels like one of those \u2018tell me you are a MAGA conspiracy theorist, without telling me you are a MAGA conspiracy theorist\u2019 memes.\u201d<\/p>\n Meanwhile, The New York Times reported<\/a> last month that the Biden campaign is hoping Swift will endorse him after the pop star did so in 2020. Trump says a 2024 endorsement<\/a> for Biden would make Swift \u201cdisloyal.\u201d<\/p>\n The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from Feb. 8-12 with 902 adults in the United States. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points.<\/p>\n
